Conduit Fill Chart

How many wires fit, by conduit type and trade size. 1/2" EMT: 9 #12 THHN or 12 #14. 3/4" EMT: 16 #12. 1" EMT: 26 #12. Calculated from NEC Chapter 9 Tables 1, 4 and 5 with Note 7 rounding.

Updated 2026-09-29

Use the table for your conduit type and wire insulation. Every conductor in the raceway counts, including the equipment ground. For mixed sizes, use the conduit fill calculator.

Dimensional data per NEC Chapter 9. Tables 1, 4 and 5 are unchanged in substance between the 2020 and 2023 editions. Always follow the edition your inspector enforces.

Questions electricians ask

How many 10 AWG THHN wires fit in 3/4 EMT?

Ten #10 THHN conductors fit in 3/4" EMT. In 1/2" EMT it is 5, and in 1" EMT it is 16.

How many wires can go in 1/2 PVC?

In 1/2" PVC Schedule 40, 8 #12 THHN or 11 #14 THHN. Schedule 80 has thicker walls and holds fewer: 6 #12 or 9 #14.

Do these tables include the ground wire?

Yes, count the ground as one of the wires. The tables assume every conductor is the same size and insulation; for a mix, use the conduit fill calculator.
